I save Skateboards from Landfills and turn them into home goods, jewelry and furniture
My name is Alexis. I am a skateboarder and my hobby is woodworking. Born and raised in Queens, I made skate boxes and ramps as a teenager. I started making furniture for myself in my 20s. In 2020, I started making things out of used skateboards!
During the pandemic, I started using skateboards as building material and I created a small business making things out of skateboards. I work with local skaters and skate shops to collect their broken and discarded skateboards so I can repurpose them and give them a second life outside the skate parks.
I started using skateboards as they were essentially free material. During the process I learned that skateboards can't be recycled due to the various materials that make up a skateboard (griptape, glue, dyes, paint, etc.) So rather than letting them end up in landfills, I decided to collect them and show the world how beautiful skateboards are and what skateboards can be.
